Michigan Long Course State Meet

Last Breakfast at Thomas' for the summer

Don't forget that Wednesday, July 28th will be the last time this summer the team will go to Thomas' for their great breakfast.  Remember this is a Pay-your-own meal event.  No RSVP necessary!

Stroke Clinic Sign-up

Please email Greg at GregPhill@BulldogAquaticClub.com to sign up for a stroke clinic.  For those returning BAC members this is DIFFERENT than the past years. 

There will be a maximum of 16 swimmers per stroke clinic session.  Please sign up for only one week.  If there are openings you may be able to sign up for a second stroke week.  These stroke clinics are included in your dues if you have paid for the 4th quarter (summer) session.  If you are a BAC member but not swimming this summer you may sign up for a stroke clinic at the cost of $30.00 (for a one week session.)

Stroke Clinic:  Week #1 Monday - Friday, August 9-13

Session #1 4:30 - 5:30 pm; Session #2 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Annual BAC Fire-up Party and Family Picnic

Practice has been cancelled for the afternoon of Monday, July 19th so everyone can attend this great event!

Details about the Fire-up Party are now available on the Social Page.  You can view the official flyer from that page or here.  This is a fun event - all BAC families are invited to attend - even if your swimmer is NOT swimming this summer - join in the fun. 

Last day to RSVP (Sat., July 17th) via email:  BACSocial@BulldogAquaticClub.com to Sally Stein, with your last name and the number of people attending.  Please remember your payment ($3.00 per person) and your dish to share. 

Practice Schedule

Please check the practice page for the updated schedule through the end of August.  There will be a one week break, followed by two weeks of stroke clinic, then practice for the short course season begins.

Sectional Meet

Good luck to Will Greenlee at the Central Zone 3 Sectional Meet!  Coach Brian will accompany Will to Purdue for this very tough & exciting meet. 

"Starts" taping

Scrip Order Schedule

Please check out the Fundraising - Scrip page - for the dates BAC will place orders for the rest of the year.  By ordering scrip cards for things you already spend money on (gas, restaurants, clothing, etc.) you can earn credit that can be used to lower your quarterly dues. 

MLA Official State Gear

You can order your MLA State gear using this order form and returning it to Yong Chen on or before Tuesday, July 13th (by 4:30 pm).  Don't delay if you want to order the gear of your choice.  There will be limited t-shirts available at the state meet.  Payment is due when you return your order form. 

This is NOT the official BAC t-shirt - details will be sent out soon about how to order your BAC gear.

Calvin Summer Senior Meet (EGRA) Results

Congratulations to Will Greenlee for his Summer Sectionals 50 Free cut achieved at this meet.    He also had State cuts in the 200 Free & 200 Fly as well as Zone cuts in the 100 Fly and 100 Free.  Great Swimming, Will!

Motor City Mile

Wednesday - Breakfast or bagels

Check the Social Events page for the dates of the "pay-your-own-way" breakfasts at Thomas' Restaurant.  The "other" Wednesdays will have bagels at the pool for those swimmers who swim morning practice.

Pancakes at the Pool

Don't miss morning practice on July 12th as Mr. Greenlee will be flipping pancakes live at the Clement Circle Pool.  This is a BAC tradition - details will be posted on the Social Events page.

New BAC Record

Congratulations to Melanie Dunnuck for setting a new BAC record and earning her first Zone cut.  Mel reset the 10 & U girls 100 long course breast stroke to 1:33.61 at the JAWS Sun & Fun ABC IMX meet in Jenison, MI.  The previous record set by A. Greenlee was 1:35.77 and was set in 1999.  Congratulations again on breaking the old record by over 2 seconds.

State Meet Hotel Information & Qualified Swimmers

Thank you to Sally Stein and Elena Pok for getting a block of BAC rooms at the Best Western.  We now have a block of 15 rooms at the price of $110.00 per night - saving $5.00 from the previous quote.  Here is a report of swimmers currently qualified to swim at the 2010 Long Course State Meet.

Long Course Meet Schedule Changes

PCC has decided to run a meet July 24-25th - the Showcase Finale.  A BAC coach will go to any session that have a minimum of 6 swimmers signed up to swim.  Please watch your email for more information about this meet.  It is an A/B meet for those swimmers trying to achieve additional state cuts (or better their times.)  You will need to use Direct Athletics to enter this meet.

BAC Website Failure

Our apologies for the recent BAC Website failure.  It appears that our hosting company was experiencing a hardware problem.  Thank you to everyone who reported the problem - your help in keeping our website up-to-date and pertinent is appreciated.

Picnic At DRD

Don't forget the annual picnic on Saturday, June 19th at DRD.  One or two additional portable grills are needed - as well as Grill Masters :)  Please take your turn at the grill on Saturday so everyone has a chance to see their swimmers swim and can take a break from the heat.  Thanks again to Susan Greenlee for organizing this traditional event.

Help raise money for BAC just by doing what you already do!  Searches and shopping on-line.  There is a Goodsearch link on the BAC website.   It's simple - start your searches from that link and BAC will earn money for every search you do.  Help BAC more by clicking on the Goodsearch link then use the Goodshop - BAC will earn a % of all purchases you do.  It doesn't get much easier than this!

New BAC Record

Congratulations to Jimmy Xue for setting a new BAC record!  Jimmy reset the 11-12 boys 50 long course backstroke to 34.54 at the CW Summerfest Meet by beating a record set by J. Cohen (34.63 set in 1983).  Congratulations again on beating a very old record.

Long Course Meet Schedule Changes

As most of you already know there was a change in the long course state meet that affected BAC's team effort meets.  CW changed their meet from July 23-25 to July 17th - and made it a one day, two session time trial meet.

If your swimmer is trying to achieve any state cuts the BAYS meet and CW meet are now the last chance to do so.  We will be sending coaches to both meets.  We expect both of these meets to fill quickly so please enter by the deadline (BAYS has been extended to June 15th - 7:00 p.m.)

Quarterly Dues

Please remember to pay your dues today to avoid a late fee.  Dues paid after the 20th will be considered LATE and you will be expected to pay a late fee.  You can read all about it in the Forms & Policies section of the website.

Morning Practices

Wednesdays after morning practice are special!  Why?  There will be bagels or a "self-pay" team breakfast at Thomas' Restaurant on Plymouth Road in Livonia.  Bagels will be free - and once again Thomas' will offer a $5.00 breakfast special.  Dates to be announced soon.

Motor City Mile

Registration information for the Motor City Mile is now available.  Greg expects all Sr Dog swimmers to participate and would like to see some of the Bulldog group there too!  This is an annual fund raiser for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and is sponsored by Different Strokes.

Sally Stein has volunteered to coordinate the pre-meet gear sales offered by DRD.  You can get a copy of the order form here.  This is a very short turn around so don't delay.  Completed forms & Payment can be turned in through Wednesday, June 2nd 5:30 pm SHARP at NHS - you can put them in the Stein folder.

Summer Schedule

The summer schedule has been posted on the Practice Schedule page.  There are still some specifics to be added but you see the general times and locations.

Team Pictures

Team & individual pictures are here!  I plan on delivering the pictures to Hillside on Thursday, May 27th and NHS on Friday, May 28th.  I will put them in the folders unless I hear otherwise.  If you'd prefer to pick the pictures up from me directly please email me at BACPresident@BulldogAquaticClub.com to make arrangements. 

4th Quarter

Please remember that the 4th quarter starts June 1st.  Dues should be paid before June 20th to avoid a late fee - you can print the dues coupon from here.  The 4th quarter runs from June 1st through the end of August.  Scrip & grocery card users:  you will be receiving an email from Elena with your credit total in the next few weeks.

BAYS Meet - hotel information

Unfortunately the "tall ships" will be in Bay City the same weekend of the BAYS Beat the Heat swim meet.  There are some hotels available 10-15 miles from the pool and a block of rooms will be reserved for BAC.  Watch your email for information in the near future.  Every attempt will be made to book a scrip hotel.

Hillside Problems

It has been brought to our attention that there have been kids fooling around at Hillside in places that they should not even be. From now on, parent, siblings, and swimmers are restricted to the pool bleachers, the hallway right outside the pool, and the parking lot.  No one is allowed anywhere near the band room and the band lockers.  Please help BAC to keep our good reputation by proper behavior so no further action will need to be taken.

Parents & Bulldog swimmers - Meeting

A quick reminder that on Tuesday, May 4th Bulldog swimmers & their parents are invited to meet with Greg Phill at 7:00 pm in the Forum Room at NHS.  Bulldog practice will end early so all swimmers have time to dry off and change in time for the meeting.

Parents & Bulldog swimmers - Meeting

Please plan on attending a meeting with BAC Head Coach Greg Phill on Tuesday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m.  Swimmer will end a little early to let the swimmers change before the meeting.  This meeting will take place in the Forum Room in Northville High School.  The Forum is at the opposite end of the high school from the pool.

Parenting for Swimmer Success

Parents - no swimmers - plan on attending a meeting with BAC Head Coach Greg Phill on Monday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Forum Room in Northville High School.  The Forum is at the opposite end of the high school from the pool. 

Central Zone Diversity Camp

Michigan Swimming will be sending two swimmers to the upcoming Central Zone Diversity Camp.  You need to be in grades 9 or 10 and be 13-16 years of age.  Please apply ONLY if you can go on the dates specified.  Click here to see all the details on Michigan Swimming's website. 

Late Pick-up Policy

As a parent of a swimmer on the team it is your responsibility to pick up your swimmer(s) from practice on time.  If you are late picking up your swimmer and a coach stays with your swimmer until you arrive you will be charged a fee.  Please take the time to read about this policy on the Forms & Policies page or by clicking here.  

Long Course Season - Updates

1.  BAC will be paying for relays.  All swimmers entered in a meet is expected to participate on a relay.  If your swimmer cannot participate in a relay email Greg at GregPhill@BulldogAquaticClub.com to let him know your swimmer cannot be on a relay.

2.  We will once again be using the DirectAthletics website to handle "on-line" entries.  But, there will not be any times for you to view or update.  Once the psych sheet is posted you will need to verify your swimmers' times and email any changes to Qun at bacmeetentry@bulldogaquaticclub.com

3.  If you forgot your user name and/or password for Direct Athletics please email Charisse at BACPresident@BulldogAquaticClub.com for your user name or to get your password reset.

Picture Day

Calling all BAC swimmers!  Picture is day is Wed., April 14th.  Swimmers can start arriving at 4:00 p.m.  Even if you are not planning to order pictures please come to picture day!

Individual pictures will start at 4:30 pm and the team picture will be taken at 5:00 p.m.  Order forms will be available at the pool.  There will not be practice but there will be pizza AFTER the team picture!

State & Sectional Swimmers - remember to bring your medals for the group pictures.

On-deck Folders

If your family does not have a folder on-deck at NHS or Hillside please email BACMembership@BulldogAquaticClub.com to let Wei know you need a folder.  The Jr. Dog folders should be moved to NHS soon if they are not already there.

Saturday practices at EMU will start at 9:00 a.m.  If you already marked your calendar please change the start time.

Volunteers Needed

BAC is still looking for a someone to put together the annual DVD/photo show for the banquet.  If you have the technical capabilities please email BAC's Social Gal Sal to volunteer.

BAC is also still looking for a "trainee" for the certificate creator position that has been held by Susan Gutowski.  Susan will be creating the certificates again this year and is hoping for someone to volunteer now to learn how this job.  She will be moving to a new BAC volunteer slot and will be unavailable to create the certificates for the 2011 banquet.  You can email BAC's Social Gal Sal to volunteer for this position too.

Team Picture Day   

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, April 14th for BAC's annual team picture day.  We will have a professional photographer taking team and individual pictures.  Order forms will be available soon.  All swimmers - even if they are not swimming this quarter - should join us at NHS. 

All swimmers who swam at the Long Course State Meet, 12 & Under Short Course Meet, 13 & Over Short Course State Meet, or a Sectional Meet should bring their medals for the pictures.  BAC parents - you are welcome to bring your camera and HELP direct our swimmers to where they need to be.  Envelopes will be sent home with swimmers this week.

Swim Bag Missing from 12 & Under State Meet

My name is Stacey Westrick from Blue Water Swim Club.  My daughter Taylor swam Sat and Sun.   She finished her race Sunday at finals and went to get her bag and it was gone.  She was sitting right by the Lakers sign with Pointe Aquatics and another team along that wall.  Both her and I looked everywhere in the entire facility.  I spoke with several people at BBA that night and the next day spoke with Waterford pool coordinator, Michelle.  They have come up with nothing at this point. 

My daughter is twelve and has been swimming since she has been seven and has several bag tags on there.  It is very important to her and to us that she can get her swim bag.  I'm sure it was just an accident, I just want her to be able to maybe get it back by this weekend at the 13 and over States.  It is a RED SPEEDO bag with lots of bag tags on it with some caps that say BWSC-state team, a fushia suit with black, a towel and whatever else was in there.  I don't really care too much about the stuff in it but the bag and tags you can't replace.  Please if anyone accidently picked it up because it is a crazy weekend with alot of swimmers could you please contact me, my husband and I would sure appreciate it!!

13 & Over State Meet Gear offered by JAWS

Nancy Lohman, mom to two BAC state swimmers, has offered to "handle" the 13 & Over State gear orders offered by JAWS.  You can get a copy of the order form here.  Orders must be turned in by Thursday, March 4th.  If your swimmer earns a state cut at the JO meet please follow the directions on the order form.

Practice update

Dues Coupon (Mar - May)

Please remember that the 3rd quarter dues are to be paid by March 1st.  The dues coupon is now available on the Forms & Policies webpage.

Important Message about On-line Entries   

Please verify ALL of your swimmer's entries on the psych sheet.  It has been discovered that there is a "glitch" causing some entries not to be downloaded.  Until this problem has been identified and fixed it is EXTREMELY important that you check they psych sheet as soon as it is posted.  Please email Qun at BACMeetEntry@BullDogAquaticClub.com if your swimmer is missing or has missing events.  If you MISS the "check" period we may not be able to get your swimmer entered into the meet.  So please, CHECK the Psych Sheets!

BAC State T-shirts

Check the BAC Gear webpage for details about the Short Course T-shirts.  These are the official BAC shirts available to the families & swimmers who have qualified to swim at a state meet AND will be attending the state meet.  These shirts are available to swimmers going to the 12 & Under OR 13 & Over Michigan Swimming State Championship swim meets.

JO Gear - offered by KAW

Volunteer needed!  BAC needs to designate a team rep to collect any BAC orders, place the order with KAW, pick-up the items at the JO meet and distribute them to BAC members.  The order needs to go to KAW on Monday, February 15th!  So volunteer tonight!  Email Charisse at BACPresident@BulldogAquaticClub.com  If there is no volunteer BAC will not place any pre-meet orders. 

JO Entry Date Clarification

The "first" entry deadline for the JO meet is Feb. 19th.  KAW - the JO host team - has requested that teams provide an initial entry file.  We will accept entries for the JO meet after the SMAC meet AND after the District Meet.  But, please do not wait to enter your swimmer in the JO meet if you KNOW there are certain events they will swim at that meet. 

12 & Under State Championship Gear - offered by BBA

State Qualifying Times - Verification   

If you plan to use a time your swimmer achieved from a school swim meet to qualify for a state meet please email Qun at BACMeetEntry@BulldogAquaticClub.com You need to provide a copy of the hard copy of the results or a link to the results.  Include the event(s) and time(s) that you plan on using from the meet.   Please do not wait until the last minute as Qun then has to provide the proof to Michigan Swimming.

Congratulations Holiday Break Point "winners"

Our holiday break "Bulldog Tough" swimmers who EARNED a pizza party and special edition t-shirt were:  Evelyn Stein, Jacque Carless, Kera Sells, Savannah Hatt, Ethan Bezzina, Jimmy Xue, Rachel Brown, Kaylee Dolinski, and Maddie Gorman. 

These swimmers attended doubles, practiced hard, were on-time, stayed for the entire practice as well as showing other "good practice habits" to earn enough points to be the Holiday Break winners.  Congratulations again!

BAC Winterfest Results

Junior Athlete Representative Elections - Nominations Needed

One new athlete representative is elected each year to serve an approximate two-year term on the MS Board of Directors. The newly-elected swimmer becomes the Junior Athlete Representative and the currently serving Junior Athlete Representative [beginning his/her second year on the Board of Directors] automatically becomes the Senior Athlete Representative.  This election takes place at the annual 13 and Over SCY State Championships (March of each year).  If you are interested in being nominated for the Junior Athlete Representative position please read the details here.  Nominations should be emailed to Charisse Nilles at BACPresident@BulldogAquaticClub.com by March 10th so she can send them to the nominating committee.

Hotel Rooms for 13 & O State Meet

Thank you to Nancy Lohman for reserving rooms at the Country Inn and Suites for the State Meet.  If you and your swimmer(s) are planning to attend this meet you should call and reserve in YOUR name one of the rooms.  It is usually very hard to find a room at the last minute so don't delay.

• Address is 3251 Deposit Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, 616-942-7000.   
• It is 15-18 minutes from the Jenison High School where the state meet is held. 
• Room block is under Bulldog Aquatic Club. 10 rooms will be held until 2/18/10 at a reduced rate of $93.99.  After 2/18, you can still get the reduced rate if any rooms are still available.
• Room has 2 queen beds and includes breakfast.  Some refrigerators are available upon request.  There is also a suite with 2 queen beds available at the reduced rate of $129.99 if you request the Bulldog Aquatic Club room block.

BAC Winterfest

Thank you to all of our BAC families for helping put on a great swim meet.  We had many compliments including comments on our "happy and friendly attitudes", a smoothly run meet, and some great food in concessions and hospitality.  If you have any comments or recommendations for next year's Winterfest please send an email to WinterfestMeetDir@BulldogAquaticClub.com or BACPresident@BulldogAquaticclub.com

Missing Cooler

Did you accidentally take a cooler from the Winterfest meet that didn't belong to you?  We are looking for a blue cooler on wheels with the name Bruen on it.  If you have it please contact Charisse at BACPresident@BulldogAquaticClub.com so arrangements can be made to return it to the Bruen family.

Fire-up Party

Don't forget to check the Social page to get all of the details for the upcoming Championship Fire-up party at Merri-Bowl Lanes in Livonia.  ALL swimmers, regardless of age or swim group are invited to attend this event.  Parents can attend and bowl too!  Please RSVP for the party by January 29th so Sally can make sure we have enough lanes reserved for our group.

Parent Social

Check the Social page for information about the Parent Social.  Don't forget to mark your calendar!  This is a very fun, annual event.  It is great to see other parents at a non-swim event without swimmers in tow.  Plan on it!

There are some additional changes to the Senior Dogs/Bulldogs practice times and location.  Please check the Practice Schedule page for all of the details.  Swim School, Puppies, Advanced Puppies, Under Dogs and Junior Dogs have practice as scheduled.

Meet Entries

Championship meets will start to be posted soon.  Please make sure you enter on-time as the District, JO, State and Sectional Meets do NOT allow late entries.  Your swimmer has been training HARD for these end of the season meets so make sure you enter on-time.

Attention Michigan Swimming Athletes:
The Michigan Swimming Zone Team would like your input!  We want you to help us design the next Zone Team uniforms.  Please submit your drawings, ideas, sketches,... whatever you are thinking to Coach Mike Cutler before March 15th.  We will select the design that most represents Michigan Swimming for this year's Zone Team going to Kenosha, Wisconsin.  Be creative!!!  These can be sent to Coach Cutler via e-mail at CoachMCutler@Riptide.org, or mail them to him at 7982 Gator Trail, Rockford, MI  49341.  We must have these in by then so that we can get the designs produced.  We will not accept them after March 15th.  The person who creates the chosen design will receive one complimentary uniform for their contributions.

BAC Winterfest

Exciting news!  Our meet is very close to full!  Please remember to treat our guests with a smile on your face and a warm welcome!

Please remind your swimmers that the hospitality room, located just off of the pool deck, is for coaches and officials only.  Remember to bring cash for you and your swimmer to buy food & beverages from BAC's own concessions.  From Coffee Beanery Coffee to ice cold Absopure water and hot dogs to Subway sandwiches there will be plenty to choose from.   There will also be sweet treats and other great food to choose from.  All BAC volunteers are welcome to purchase food & beverages from the concession area located in the pool lobby. 

Dig out your BAC gear and show your team spirit!   And finally - don't forget to enjoy yourself this weekend at the meet!

CW Winter Waterfest

CW Winter Waterfest from the CW Meet Entry Chair

The morning start time for our upcoming meet has changed.  Morning warm up will begin at 8:30am with the events beginning at 9:30am.  The times for the afternoon sessions are unchanged and remained as outlined in the meet packet. 

Additionally, we will run the meet using 6 lanes for the sessions on Saturday and Sunday.  This change was made to allow swimmer adequate time between their races.  The Friday night session will still run with 8 lanes.

LOLL Guppy Bowl  

Attention parents of swimmers age 8 and under:  the Guppy Bowl is just for you!  This is a one session meet set up for the youngest swimmers only!  No worry about the big kids on deck since this meet is limited to ages 8 & under.  Please go to Direct Athletics to sign up your swimmer.  Remember you need to use the username and password sent to you in an email from Direct Athletics to sign-up for this meet.  Entries are due by Jan. 11th.  Check out all the meet details at the Meet Info & Entry Page.

Lifeguard Training

Is your swimmer (ages 15+) interested in lifeguarding?  If yes, try to take advantage of the classes held in March at Hillside.  You can see the flyer here.
