Winterfest Update

The volunteer list has been updated - please check it for accuracy and to see what is still available for you to volunteer for.  You can find it on the Winterfest/members page.

All BAC families are expected to work 3 sessions at the Winterfest.  If you cannot fulfill the three sessions please ask a friend or family member to help out.  All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.  There are very limited volunteer slots to do pre-meet work.  These slots are ONLY for members who absolutely cannot work during the meet.

Please note that there was a mistake in the original Winterfest letter from Don Pijor.  If you do not work your 3 sessions there is a charge of $60.00 per session missed (not $40.00) and a maximum of $180 if you miss all three.  This was noted on the volunteer form which was distributed at both parent meetings, given to all new BAC members, and available on the Forms webpage.  The letter has been updated.

This is an exciting meet for all of our swimmers as their BAC friends will be there.  It is a great way to meet other BAC parents as we will all be there volunteering.  This is our MAIN fundraiser of the year so we need everyone to put forth their best effort!

Time tracker Spreadsheet

Are you interested in tracking your swimmer's times at each meet?  Then check out the excel spreadsheet available on the time standards page.  It will automatically track the fastest swim in each event.

Time standards

Currently the time standards listed on the Times Standards web page are for 2008-2009.  If you are willing to update the time standards please email Charisse at bacpresident@bulldogaquaticclub.com to volunteer.

Assistant Treasurer change

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Lu Xu for serving as the Assistant Treasurer.  She had a very time consuming and detail oriented of collecting checks for meet entries, dues, and other payments as well as tracking the roster.  Lu also followed up on missing payments and always had a positive attitude when discussing her responsibilities.  Lu will finish her term on the BAC Board in the member-at-large position.

Thank you to Dottie Garrity for stepping forward to serve as the Assistant Treasurer.  She has already spent many hours training with Lu to learn the ins and outs of this very important position.  Please help Dottie in her new position by writing one check for meet entries, one check for dues, another check for fundraising, etc.

Here is the information regarding the pilot program being offered to high school swimmers, starting February 2.

  • 3 days/week, M, W & Th 6-7:30 @ NHS pool
  • 2 Sessions offered: February - April & May - July
  • Freshman & older swimmers only
  • No USA swim meet attendance expectations

  • HS Pilot Program is for HS swimmers new to BAC ~ not for our existing members

Update on head coach process

The BAC Exec. Board is now in the process of interviewing the top candidates suggested by the head coach committee for the head coach position.  You will see within the next week and a half some "guest coaches" assisting our coaches with their practices.  These guest coaches are some of the candidates under consideration.

BAC Board Positions
Now is the time of year when the BAC Board starts searching for members who might  be interested in serving on the Board.  There is a transition of roles starting in May with the actual positions starting in late summer of 2009.  This year we are looking for members with a variety of talents including:
  • Computer knowledge

  • Interest in assisting with new membership
The BAC Board is made up of volunteers.  New Board members are essential to the continued growth and success of BAC.   Based on our recent Winterfest Meet, we clearly have members at BAC with a variety of  talents and skills.  We need YOU on the Board of Directors.  This is your opportunity to give back something to the sport so many us, especially our children,  love so much.

Please contact Linda Hatt at BACPresident@bulldogaquaticclub.com if you have questions regarding a position or are interested in nominating a member

Championship Meets and Fire Up Party

All BAC swimmers over the age of 8 are expected to compete in a Championship Meet at the end of the short course season.  There is a Championship Meet for every level of swimmer. The most novice swimmers along with any other BAC swimmer with times slower than Q2 should plan on competing in the District Meet, held Feb. 20 - 22 at the LCRC.  This meet is currently posted on the BAC Meet Entry and Info Web page.  Intermediate level swimmers should plan on attending the Junior Olympic Meet the last weekend of February.  State qualifiers will compete in the State Meet held in mid March.  Please talk to your swimmers coach to determine what championship meet is right for them.

Fire Up Party

The Championship Meet Fire up Party will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12:00 pm at Merri-Bowl Lanes in Livonia.  The cost is $9.95/person and includes 2 games of bowling, bread-sticks, salad, pizza, pop, and cake.  Rental shoes are an additional $1.00 so please bring your own bowling shoes if you have them.  Please go the the BAC Social web page for further information.

Final update:  Hillside pool is closed so Jr. Dog practice is cancelled.  Bulldogs and Senior Dogs will practice 7-9pm at the Livonia Rec Center.  The first 20-30 minutes will be spent doing dryland practice so please make sure your swimmer has the appropriate gear.  If you know of anyone who doesn't check their email or our website very often please call them to let them know of these changes.

Happy New Year to all of our BAC swimmers and families.

January practice schedule

The BAC Board has spent the past few weeks looking at additional pool space availabilities related to the lateness of practices at LCRC and also some concerns raised by Bulldog parents regarding difficulty getting their swimmers to practice prior to 4:30 pm.  We are happy to report that we have secured the Livonia Stevenson pool starting this Monday, January 5  from 6:30 - 8:30 pm for all Sr. Bulldog and Bulldog swimmers.  Livonia Stevenson is located on 6 Mile between Newburgh and Farmington Roads.  Pool entrance is on west end of building in the back portion. Directions to pool will be marked.  This arrangement will be for January only as in February we will be returning to NHS with practices starting at either 5:30 or 6 pm (we are still confirming this with the NHS boys team).

The Jr. Dog, Adv. Puppy, and Swim School participants will continue at Hillside as previously scheduled.  We are looking at options with these groups as well as we realize the 4:15 pm starting time is difficult for many parents.

Holiday Practices

Congratulations to all swimmers who participated in the 2 week holiday double practice schedule.  Coach Brian reports that 8 swimmers made the total goal of 70 points.  This is a very good number as only 2 swimmers made this set criteria for the 2007 holiday season.  These 8 will be given a special award and will be recognized individually for their accomplishment.

BAC Winterfest

As most of you know, our Winterfest Meet is this coming weekend.  A reminder to please arrive at your volunteer positions at the allotted time.  Please look over the information provided on our website if you have any questions regarding Winterfest.  Special thanks to our Meet Director, Chuck Bezzina, who has organized and coordinated this meet to ensure its success.

Guppy Bowl

Our Meet Entry coordinator recently sent out information regarding the Guppy Bowl.    This is a meet for 8 & under swimmers only and all Swim School and Adv. Puppy swimmers 8 and under are encouraged to participate.  This meet is very different than the regular USS meets as there are only young swimmers participating.  It is very relaxed and the kids have a great time.

SMAC Last Chance Meet

The meet info packet for the SMAC Last Chance Meet will be posted very soon.  Please help out our meet entry chair, Charisse Nilles, by sending your entries in early.  Read the announcement email carefully so you know the deadlines for this meet.

Please feel free to contact any member of the BAC Board with questions.
